Who’s Who

Who’s who – our church officers

Revd Douglas A. O. NicolDAONicol
Revd. Douglas A O Nicol was inducted as Minister of Hobkirk & Southdean linked with Ruberslaw on Friday 12th June 2009 in Hobkirk Church, a site of Christian worship for over 900 years.

Douglas had already served the Church of Scotland in the following capacities:

Youth Officer at the former St. Ninian’s Centre, Crieff, from 1972 to 1976
Minister of Lochside Church, Dumfries, from 1976 to 1982
Minister of St Columba Church of Scotland, Kilmacolm, from 1982 to 1991
General Secretary of the General Assembly’s former Board of National Mission from 1991 to 2005
Council Secretary of the General Assembly’s Mission and Discipleship Council from 2005 to 2009

Interests over the years have included the Scottish Bible Society, of which he has served as Chairman of the Board, and Churches Together in Britain & Ireland, of which he has served as Trustee.

He says that 18 years were for him “enough” in the Church of Scotland offices, and that returning to parish ministry is a “dream come true”! Both Anne and he are enjoying living in the Manse in Denholm, and Douglas is enjoying all the travel involved in his new role around this beautiful part of the Scottish Borders.

The Kirk Sessions of Hobkirk & Southdean and Ruberslaw

The aim of both Kirk Sessions is to provide services with a broad range of appeal and to keep the Kirk at the centre of social life in the parish, and you are very warmly invited to attend any of our services or functions. Supporters – no matter how irregular their attendance – should ask for their names to be added to the membership role, which gives the right to vote at congregational meetings and ensures visits and pastoral support from the area Elder.  Anyone confirmed in another church can become a member by resolution of the Session, as may “lapsed” members of the Church of Scotland whose lines lie with another kirk. Enquirers’ get-togethers are arranged from time to time by the minister for those wishing to learn more about the teaching of the church and it’s relevance to the modern world.  We hope to see you soon!
